H.S.H. the Prince inaugurates Grace Kelly’s Childhood Home

Friday 11 May 2018, HSH Prince Albert II was back in Philadelphia after His stay in New York for the official inauguration, along with His American cousins and two hundred guests, of the Kelly House where His Mother, Princess Grace, grew up.

In September 2016, the Sovereign Prince bought the house built in 1935 by His maternal grandfather, John B. Kelly Sr. The Kelly family lived in this house until the mid-1970s.

This is where Prince Rainier and the actress Grace Kelly announced their engagement on 5 January 1956.

The house, which was sold several times and suffered the ravages of time, required serious renovation.

This was undertaken last year under the supervision of Prince Albert’s cousins Susan Kelly Von Medicus, her son William and John B. Kelly Jr.

The house, restored in the 1940s style, will house the American branch of the Prince Albert II Foundation, chaired by John B. Kelly. It will host cultural events organised in collaboration with the Princess Grace Foundation-USA.
