The Yersin Leaves Monaco for Three Years of Scientific Exploration Round the Globe

On the evening of Thursday 27 July, the Princely Couple and Their Children, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, were on board the scientific ship "M/V Yersin" to participate in a ceremony to mark the departure of the ship from the Yacht Club of Monaco.

The Yersin is undertaking a three-year scientific exploration campaign round the planet. Her return to Monaco is scheduled for June 2020.

En route to the archipelagos of Macaronesia (the islands of Madeira and Cap Verde) which the ship will reach in September to carry out her first explorations following in the footsteps of Prince Albert I, the Scholar Prince who studied the local species there, a century ago.

Property of the ship owner François Fiat, this unique ship, which required 10 years of work, is a multi-purpose vessel, respectful of the environment in terms of its emissions and classed as a "Clean Ship.” The Yersin carries exploration equipment such as a small submarine and six scientific laboratories. She is capable of sailing for 50 days in complete self-sufficiency.
