Good Friday in Monaco - Procession of the Dead Christ

On 30 March 2018, on the occasion of Good Friday, TT.SS.HH Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, accompanied by their children, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, followed the traditional Procession of the Dead Christ from the windows of the Palace.

This procession, the origin of which goes back to the early 18th century, is organised by the Venerable Archconfraternity of Mercy, according to a precise order representing the different Stations of the Cross.

The Penitents then roam the streets of the Rock, followed by many of the faithful.

When night falls, the lights of the Rock are dimmed and while the crowds are in contemplation, the Procession moves off to the sound of funeral music played by the Municipal Band.

It then passes twice across the Place du Palais under the gaze of Members of the Princely Family. The procession concludes at the Cathedral for a moment of prayer and reflection, animated by the "Petits Chanteurs de Monaco".
