This official visit, the first by the President of the French Republic to the Principality, confirmed the age-old ties of friendship between the two countries.
In a private conversation, HSH Prince Albert II and the President of the French Republic Nicolas Sarkozy evoked several topics.
First, the President announced the future ratification, at the end of May, of current Franco-Monegasque agreements and conventions. These agreements bear in particular on administrative cooperation, judicial cooperation and investors’ guarantee.
The Prince informed the President of the Principality of Monaco’s request to be admitted to the Barcelona process. He thanked the President for the support of France in this matter and for his invitation to attend the Summit in Paris next 13 July involving all the Heads of States and Government concerned.
This conversation also provided an opportunity to express confidence to the working group in charge of examining the situation of French nationals in Monaco.
In the course of the day, the Heads of State expressed their satisfaction at the Chinese authorities’ wish to renew dialogue with the Dalai Lama.
A working luncheon then gathered, around the two Heads of State, the Monegasque Government and a French Ministerial Delegation.
In the afternoon, a round table was held at the Oceanographic Museum with renowned scientists to discuss the consequences of global warming at the Poles and in the Mediterranean Sea.|
