The conversation bore in particular on the project of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Principality's financial and economic development and exchanges in the area of international cooperation. They were very pleased with the convergence of view on these issues.
Beforehand, HSH the Ruling Prince spoke with Ingrid Betancourt. The Prince told her His joy at the prospect of welcoming her to the Principality.
In the afternoon, Prince Albert II participated in the first Summit of Heads of State and Government to launch the Union for the Mediterranean at the Grand Palais in Paris.
After introductory speeches by the first co-presidents of the UPM, Nicolas Sarkozy and Hosni Moubarak, the 44 States present discussed the different projects.
In the context of these exchanges, the Ruling Prince emphasized that “my country will be an active member, determined and ready to support and contribute to this partnership I deem crucial.”
HSH the Prince then recalled with force and gravity that “the Mediterranean is our common heritage and this heritage is in danger.” He added that “it is our imperative duty to save it.”
The Prince offered to “place in the service of this cause the Principality's scientific resources and hospitality”.
The day ended with a dinner honouring the Heads of State and Government and other Heads of Delegations.
