rehabilitation works on Faial Island since the earthquake of 1998.
This Observatory was built in 1915 and named for Prince Albert I of Monaco in tribute to his many oceanographic research campaigns in the Azores archipelago from 1885 to 1913
and his close ties with King Carlos I of Portugal.
Now equipped with the latest technology, the Observatory can pursue scientific work in the areas of meteorology and seismology. Close scientific cooperation will be set up
between the Prince Albert I of Monaco Observatory and the Principality's scientific institutions.|
