Interview with H.S.H. Prince Albert II - Monaco-Matin

MM: The Palace of Monaco just announced your engagement to Charlene Wittstock. This eagerly awaited commitment is a strong signal. Is there anything you would like to add?

HSH Prince Albert II: I'm very pleased to inform you that Charlene Wittstock and I are engaged. I know the Monegasque people were looking forward to this. Today, I want to share my joy with them.

MM: For nearly 4 years, we have grown accustomed to seeing Charlene Wittstock in your company. But we still know little about her. Could you describe her main personality traits?

HSH Prince Albert II: Charlene Wittstock is a South African citizen. She was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She was very young when she began the training that made her Commonwealth 100 metres backstroke champion. She built her strong personality on the values of sport. Her interest in humanitarian causes, those concerning children in particular, is witness to her great sensibility and empathy.

MM: How do you envisage her role by your side from now on?

HSH Prince Albert II: I expect that Charlene Wittstock, who loves Monaco and already knows it well, will understand my country's specificity to become fully integrated in life here. I would also like the Monegasque people to welcome her favourably and appreciate what her culture and fresh approach can bring us.

MM: When can we expect the wedding?

HSH Prince Albert II: (Smile···) The wedding will be next summer.
