Prince Albert reached King George Island yesterday for a three-day stay. Located approximately 120 km from the Antarctic peninsula, it is the largest of the South Shetland Islands, some 75 km long. Although it has no indigenous population, it is home to a considerable scientific community.

The Sovereign has already spoken with some of them when visiting various laboratories specialized in geology, cartography, vulcanology and microbiology.

In this first leg, He will visit a series of bases: Frei and Escudero (Chile), Bellingshausen (Russia), Great Wall (China), Artigas (Uruguay), King Sejong (South Korea), Commandante Ferraz (Brazil) and Arctowski (Poland).

Onboard the Chilean ship Icebreaker, He will discover several other bases: O'Higgins and Arturo Prat (Chile), Ohridski (Bulgaria) and Juan Carlos Primero (Spain).
