My Dear Compatriots,

Dear Friends,

This year, which has just come to a close, will obviously have been exceptional for (Princess) Charlene and me. Our wedding provided an opportunity for us to take full measure of the intensity of the ties between the Monegasque community and our Family.

Tonight, as I stand here to express, on behalf of both of us, our most ardent wishes for each one of you, my memory still resounds with the joy we shared.

I wish you the greatest happiness throughout this new year.

While several neighbouring countries have been or remain affected by a severe financial, economic and social crisis, the Principality's dynamism has enabled us to resist.

This delicate situation requires extremely wise management of public finance to cope with the constraints weighing on us, while preserving our social model and prospects for growth.

This is why the choices we make must be well balanced, reasonable and fair.

We must never forget that it is in situations of economic crisis that solidarity is most urgent to help preserve our peace of mind.

The Holiday Season is a privileged time for families to come together across generations.

These times also intensify our appreciation of such values as tolerance, respect for others and the diversity of cultures.

I would like to formulate the fervent wish for Monaco to remain a model for coexistence based on common values.

Tonight, my thoughts are drawn especially to those in our community who experience suffering, illness or solitude: may they find sympathy and support from people who are able to help them within our country, whose small size, on a "human scale," is an unsuspected asset.

I would also like to give my warmest encouragement to our youth, who embody the future. We place our faith in their imagination, ideals, determination, capacity for effort and generosity.

For the men and women working, investing or choosing to make their home here in our land, I hope their contribution to the life of our country brings them genuine personal fulfilment in return.

To each and every one of you, whether they are in the Principality or outside but still emotionally attached to our land, I confidently reassert: "Happy New Year," "Bon anu dui mila duze."
