The Youth Olympic Games to be held in Innsbruck, Austria, represent a major first for the Winter Games.
In line with the first Summer Youth Olympic Games, this means new momentum for the Olympic movement. I am pleased and proud that the Principality of Monaco can once again participate in this key event.
Beyond the athletic aspect with high-level competition, these Winter Youth Olympics will teach young people the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, mutual respect and social values like the environment.
A rich cultural and educational programme, an innovative element, will also enable all these young people to broach a certain number of important questions such as the benefits of a health lifestyle, the dangers of doping or their roles as ambassadors of sport in their respective communities.
This is one of the major forces of this exciting YOG project, where the main focus in on learning and sharing.
I would like to express the wish that Bryan Pelassy (alpine skiing), Rudy Rinaldi and Jérémy Torre (bobsleigh) can fully enjoy this unforgettable exalting experience. I wish them to be able to take full advantage of what they will learn at the YOG, continue developing this spirit of joy and excelling themselves, pursuing their training and future competition.
