HSH Prince Albert II welcomed Osamu Motojima, Director General of ITER, and the five postdocs - Sun Hee Kim, Ian Pong, Jing Na, Debasmita Samaddar and Shimpei Futatani - to the Palace of Monaco on Monday 14 May.
ITER Organization and the Principality of Monaco signed a 10-year partnership agreement on 16 January 2008 to fund five postdoctoral fellowships every two years, along with an international scientific event, Monaco ITER International Energy Days, next scheduled for December 2013 in the Principality.
This agreement provides for training the next generation of scientists and engineers from partner countries (European Union, China, Japan, India, South Korea, Russian Federation and United States) or the Principality of Monaco, while also establishing the basis for an International Fusion Energy Research Centre.
Postdocs will receive training in the context of a research topic linked to the fields associated with construction and operation of the future ITER project fusion reactor.
HE Michel Roger, Minister of State, and Marco Piccinini, Government Counsellor for Finance and Economy, were also present at this audience.
