Monaco Pavilion National Day at EXPO 2020 Dubai

On Saturday 13 November, the Principality of Monaco celebrated its National Day at the Dubai World Expo which opened its doors on 1 October.

Welcomed in the morning at the Leadership Pavilion by H.E. Mrs Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates and Director of Expo 2020 Dubai, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, along with H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie, Mr and Mrs Louis Ducruet, Miss Camille Gottlieb, Mr Gareth Wittstock and a large official delegation, attended the flag raising ceremony under the dome of Al Wasl Square to the sound of the Dubai and Monegasque national anthems.

During his speech at the official ceremony, the Sovereign Prince thanked the Emirati authorities for hosting and successfully organising this event in such an exceptional setting, despite the pandemic.

The two delegations then walked to the Monaco pavilion, preceded by the Prince's Carabinieri Orchestra, for a visit organised by Mr Albert Croesi, Commissioner General. The Monegasque pavilion, which has already received more than 230,000 visitors and whose polygonal architecture evokes the Rock of Monaco, has the theme "Monaco 360°, a world of opportunities". The pavilion's design presents different facets of the Principality, its unique properties, its projects and its cultural life.

Then H.S.H. the Prince and H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie went to the United Arab Emirates pavilion where they were welcomed by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, who presented this amazing space to them. The visit ended with the signing of the Guest Book by H.S.H. the Prince as well as the signing by Mr. Jean Castellini, Government Counsellor - Minister of Finance and Economy, and H.E. Mr. Mohamed Bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, of a bilateral tax treaty for the elimination of double taxation in respect of taxes on income and the prevention of fiscal evasion and fraud.

Back at the Leadership Pavilion for an official lunch hosted by the local authorities, Their Serene Highnesses discovered the exhibition entitled "50 Years of Expo" which traces half a century of UAE history at the World Expo. Before leaving the Leadership Pavilion, the Prince and Princess signed the Guest Book.

At the end of the lunch, H.S.H. the Prince went to the French pavilion. Welcomed by Mr Eric Linquier, Commissioner of the French pavilion, the Sovereign was able to discover the "Flying Whales" project presented by Mr Sébastien Bougon. This aircraft, which will float on helium instead of hydrogen, will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system and will then switch to all-electric mode. It will be able to load and unload up to 60 tonnes of freight in hovering flight. The launch of this airship, scheduled for 2024, represents an environmentally friendly transport solution. The Sovereign Prince then signed the Guest Book of the French pavilion.

The festivities continued in the afternoon with a performance by the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo at Jubilee Park, followed by a concert by the Prince's Carabinieri Orchestra. In the early evening, a performance by the Ballets de Monte Carlo "CORE MEU" on the stage of the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre brought the Monegasque cultural performances to a close.

In the evening, a reception was held at the Monaco pavilion in the presence of H.S.H. the Prince, members of the Prince’s Family, the official delegation, Emirati guests and Monegasque partners.
