H.S.H. the Prince attends the enthronement ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On Tuesday 22 October, H.S.H. Prince Albert II attended the enthronement ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, alongside more than 180 Heads of Delegations: royal families, heads of state, ambassadors and representatives of the United Nations and the European Union.

Emperor Naruhito officially proclaimed His accession to the Chrysanthemum throne at this traditional ceremony. Emperor Naruhito is the 126th Emperor of Japan. Since 1 May Japan has entered the Reiwa era (beautiful harmony) with the beginning of the reign of Naruhito following the abdication of His father Emperor Akihito.

In 1990, H.S.H. the Prince, who at the time was the Hereditary Prince, attended the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Akihito. In the evening, a banquet was offered at the Imperial Palace by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to the Heads of Delegations (some 500 guests).

On Wednesday 23 October, the Sovereign Prince attended the dinner of the Prime Minister Mr Shinzo ABE and his wife, organised as part of the ceremonies for the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
