Christening of the new maritime launch the "Princesse Gabriella"

On Wednesday 16 December 2020, H.S.H. Princess Gabriella, in the company of by Her parents, T.S.H. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene and Her brother, Crown Prince Jacques, christened the DPMA*’s new launch which, from now on, will bear Her name.

After a speech by Mr Richard Marangoni, Director of Public Security and the blessing of the launch by Monsignor David, Archbishop of Monaco, H.S.H. Princess Gabriella released the cord to break the sugar glass bottle on the hull of the ship, as is the maritime tradition. Sirens and foghorns then sounded in Port Hercules to greet this christening. The flag was then hoisted to the sound of the Monegasque anthem played on a trumpet.

This ceremony took place on the Quai Louis II in front of the Yacht Club de Monaco, in the presence of the Principality’s most senior authorities.

The "Princesse Gabriella" launch will enable the DPMA to strengthen its operations such as marine search and rescue, the fight against marine pollution in the Mediterranean, cross-border control and port security.

This 24m long, 5.60m wide, 60 ton vessel, capable of reaching a speed of 30 knots with a full load, is equipped with 2 radars and a satellite link, as well as a 400kg crane, a fire-fighting system and a weapon on standby. It will increase the operational capacities of the DPMA and optimise port surveillance and sea rescue.

2020 also marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Maritime and Airport Police Division in the Principality by Prince Rainier III.
