The Prince first of all met with Mr Jean-Paul Costa, President of the European Court of Human Rights. They discussed the Council of Europe henceforth taking into account environmental concerns, the question of child protection, and the modernisation of Monaco's code of criminal law procedures.
Prince Albert II also met with Mr Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, with whom he examined the issues of the day.
After these meetings, Prince Albert II participated in the launch of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) on the occasion of the first meeting of its Statutory Committee in the presence notably of Mr Richard Caborn, the United Kingdom's Minister for Sport.
EPAS was created to give fresh impetus to pan-European cooperation in matters of sport. International organisations, international sports federations and NGOs involved in this field, were invited to become active partners in the Agreement. Eighteen countries have already adhered 1.
In his speech, H.S.H. Prince Albert II stressed his "joy and pride at participating in the opening of the first statutory committee meeting" and reiterated that EPAS's mission is "to strengthen positive and coordinated policies pertaining to sport, to guarantee good governance in sport, and to foster cooperation with the big sports federations."
The visit to the Council of Europe ended with a particularly cordial audience with Her Excellency Sladjana Prica, Chairwoman of the Ministers' Deputies, on behalf of the Committee of Ministers.
