Princess Charlene and I are happy to be here tonight to express our most fervent Best Wishes for the New Year for you and your loved ones.
May the year 2014 bring each and every one of you a year of great fulfilment in your families, your professional lives and all your activities.
In a financial and economic context which is still fragile, I am satisfied that Monaco has shown its ability to maintain its budgetary stability and consolidate its growth.
I would like to thank all those whose efforts contributed to reach the objectives I set and which we have achieved together.
In persistently uncertain conditions, we must continue exercising the greatest caution. We must in no circumstances yield to any temptation to turn back, but rather wisely and shrewdly seek ways to adapt in a context of intensified competitiveness and permanent competition.
Globalisation is an inescapable reality we must take into account without overlooking our own specificities.
New markets are opening up. We must go to them, since excellence must remain our ambition.
As you know, my environmental convictions bolster me in searching for development based on sustainable growth in the service of more efficient economy in the use of resources.
Our Principality is a haven of happiness in an often tormented world. We must appreciate this happiness at its true value by continuing to display solidarity towards all those facing conflict, poverty or natural disasters elsewhere in the world.
This year 2014 will provide an opportunity for the Principality to demonstrate our faith in the future.
In this respect, I would like to pay tribute to the openness of our young people, more and more of whom go to schools abroad, where they often have their first professional experience.
This evening, our thoughts also go to our elders, whose courage reveals life's true resources.
To all of you who live or work in Monaco, thereby participating in the Principality's future accomplishments, may the year 2014 enable you in return to make your most heartfelt wishes come true.
