At the beginning of the year, H.S.H. the Prince succeeded H.R.H. Princess Astrid of Belgium as honorary President of the EORTC, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, and it was with great pleasure that the Principality hosted the EORTC Charitable Trust gala at the Yacht Club de Monaco yesterday evening.
A great many key figures attended the event: T.R.H. the Prince and Princess of Belgium, T.R.H. the Prince and Princess of Luxembourg, H.R.H. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Mr Stefano PESSINA, founder of the "Alliance Boots" group, Ms Ornella BARRA, Chief Executive of "Alliance Boots" and Count Diego DU MONCEAU, Chairman of the EORTC charitable trust.
Founded in 1962, this European non-profit organisation has since been conducting research with a view to improving quality of life and care for cancer patients. Thanks to the support of over 300 health establishments in over 30 countries, close to 5,000 patients are treated every year using the EORTC's protocols.
