Official visit to the Principality of Monaco by H.E. Mr Aleksandar Vucic, President of the Republic of Serbia

On Tuesday 22 February, H.S.H. Prince Albert II welcomed H.E. Mr Aleksandar Vucic, President of the Republic of Serbia, to His Palace for an official visit to the Principality of Monaco. This visit follows the one made by H.S.H. the Prince on 7 and 8 October 2020 to Belgrade, in the Republic of Serbia, a country with which the Principality of Monaco has established diplomatic relations since 2007.

At the end of the morning, in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palace of Monaco, the Serbian and Monegasque national anthems, were played by the Prince's Carabinieri Orchestra before a parade led by Colonel Tony Varo, Superior Commander of the Public Force, and composed of two Carabinieri sections. The two Heads of State then reviewed the entire military detachment before heading towards the delegations for a mutual presentation.

The Sovereign Prince and H.E. Mr Aleksandar Vucic then held a bilateral meeting in the Salon de Famille of the Palace of Monaco in the presence of Mr Nikola Selakovic, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Tanja Jovic, Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Mrs Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Government Counsellor - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mrs Sophie Vatrican, Counsellor in the Cabinet of H.S.H. the Prince. Together, they discussed international and economic issues. The two delegations were delighted with the signing of a framework cooperation agreement which will enable economic relations between the two countries to be strengthened, with the wish, as soon as the health situation allows, to organise an economic mission to Belgrade or the Principality by the Monaco Economic Board and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.

At the end of these discussions, H.S.H. the Prince decorated the Serbian President with the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Charles. This distinction rewards merit and recognises services rendered to the State or to the person of the Prince. Immediately after the ceremony, the Prince and H.E. Mr. Vucic attended the signing of the framework agreement on cooperation between the two countries.

Before the official lunch for the delegations in the Grand Dining Room of the Palace, the two Heads of State were able to watch the changing of the guard at noon from the windows of the Salon des Glaces.

In the evening, H.S.H. the Prince and President Vucic attended the performance of Werther, a lyrical drama by the composer Jules Massenet, at the Monte-Carlo Opera.
