An underwater relief named in honor of H.S.H. Prince Albert II
In honor of the Sovereign Prince's commitment to understanding and protecting the oceans, and as a token of friendship on the occasion of the state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, France submitted a proposal to the International Hydrographic Organization to name a major underwater feature in the Indian Ocean after H.S.H. Prince Albert II.
This feature, located at 25° south latitude and 69° east longitude, rises to a depth of 1,958 meters. It is now officially named “Prince Albert II Seamount.”
This is a powerful tribute to H.S.H. the Prince's tireless commitment to knowledge, preservation and sustainable governance of the ocean, in line with the Monegasque sovereigns who, since Prince Albert I, have inscribed the Principality in the history of great explorations and marine science.
Based in Monaco, the International Hydrographic Organization plays an essential role in global maritime mapping and safety.
