Inauguration ceremony and visit of the Grand Egyptian Museum

At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo on Saturday, November 1—a cultural and heritage project of global significance.
Welcomed by the Egyptian President and his wife, the Sovereign Prince took part in this historic ceremony, which brought together more than eighty kings, princes, heads of state and government, and international leaders.
Prince Albert II hailed a major milestone in the preservation of Egyptian history and in passing on unique testimonies of ancient civilization to future generations. He emphasized how the discovery of this museum and its remarkable collections will contribute to the enhancement of an invaluable cultural heritage.
Following the speeches and artistic performances, the Prince visited the museum's galleries, admiring in particular the treasure of Tutankhamun, unearthed in 1922 in an untouched tomb in the Valley of the Kings.
Dedicated to five millennia of history and thirty pharaonic dynasties, the Grand Egyptian Museum offers an exceptional view of the pyramids of Giza.
The result of twenty years of extensive work, it embodies Egypt's desire to offer the world a new chapter in its cultural heritage.
Majestically dominating the entrance hall, the monumental 11-meter-high statue of Ramses II now welcomes visitors to what is becoming the largest archaeological museum in the world.
