H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco's official visit to Croatia

On His arrival in Zagreb on the morning of 21st April, the Sovereign Prince visited the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Croatia where he was welcomed by the President, Mr Stjepan MESIC.

After inspecting the troops, the two Heads of State exchanged decorations, the "Grand Order of King Tomislav" to H.S.H. the Prince and the "Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Charles? to the Croatian President.

After a private meeting, Mr Mesic and the Sovereign Prince made a press statement. Prince Albert II notably expressed the admiration he has for this country at the heart of Central Europe and the Mediterranean basin. He also highlighted the two countries' common points: ?a rich past, the same passion for the Mediterranean, their commitment to the protection of the environment and their involvement within the Union for the Mediterranean?. He concluded His speech by expressing His conviction that His visit would further establish the relationship of respect and understanding between the two countries as well as their cooperation both bilaterally and internationally.

The Croatian Prime Minister, Doctor Ivo SANADER then gave a lunch at the Government headquarters, before which the Sovereign Prince met with Mr Vladimir SEKS, Vice President of the Croatian Parliament, then Mr Milan BOHACEK, Mayor of Zagreb.

At the end of the day, H.S.H. the Prince visited the Upper Town of Zagreb and its Cathedral as well as the high technology firm, the ?Ericsson Nikola Tesla Company?, accompanied by its President, Mrs Gordana KOVACEVIC.

In the evening, H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the official delegation from Monaco were invited to a dinner at the Republic's Presidential Palace.

This day allowed the Sovereign Prince to address the Croatian authorities in particular about the assistance provided by the Principality for mine clearance and the tourism policy of both countries.

During the morning of 22nd April, H.S.H. the Prince visited Rovinj where he was welcomed by the town's mayor, Mr Giovanni Sponza and the Advisor to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister, Mrs Dijana Plestina for a tour of the future Rehabilitation Centre for mine victims, partly funded by the Principality.

In the afternoon, the Sovereign Prince visited Porec, a town classified as a UNESCO world heritage site and the Eurfrazijeva Basilica.

 H.S.H. the Prince was accompanied on this trip by Mr Stéphane VALERI, President of the National Council, Mr Georges LISIMACHIO, Head of H.S.H. the Prince's Government, H.E. Mr Franck BIANCHERI, Government Advisor for External Relations and International Economic and Financial Affairs, H.E. Mr Philippe BLANCHI, Monaco Ambassador to Croatia, Mr Zoran BOHACEK, Honorary Consul for the Principality in the Republic of Croatia and Mr Jean KERWAT, Honorary Consul for Croatia in Monaco.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco left Croatia to visit Romania in order to conduct his first official visit to this country on 23rd and 24th April.

On his arrival, the Sovereign Prince met the highest Romanian authorities: H.E. Mr Traian BASESCU, President of Romania, Mr Mircea GEOANA, President of the Senate and Adrian NASTASE, Vice President of the Chamber of Ministers and Mr Emil BOC, Romania's Prime Minister.
