Working visit of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco to the President of the French Republic

A working meeting between President Emmanuel Macron and H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, on Friday 29 November, at the Elysée Palace, was an opportunity to reaffirm the depth and the closeness of ties between the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco.

« Our pre-destined community», forged throughout our shared history, is enriched by the constant cooperation between the two states, the development of the Franco-Monegasque labour pool and the affirmation of shared great ambitions. These concern, in particular, the protection of the environment, the fight against climate change, the defence of biodiversity and the preservation of the oceans.

The President of the French Republic and the Sovereign Prince of Monaco have thus reaffirmed their commitment to work together, for the effective and as broad as possible implementation of the Paris Agreement, in particular with regard to COP 25.

They also decided to move forward jointly to develop, through a working group, the statutes of the Albert I Foundation, owner of the Maison des Océans in Paris and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

With regard to international issues, the President of the French Republic and H.S.H. Prince Albert II, amongst other matters, referred to the Organisation International de La Francophonie and the holding in Monaco of the CMF last month, and their commitment to this Organisation in view of its fiftieth anniversary to be celebrated next year in Tunis.

This working meeting finally made it possible to evoke three dossiers of cooperation of interest shared between the two States:

- the negotiation of an Association Agreement between Monaco and the European Union, from which the Principality of Monaco and the French Republic, expect a mode of cooperation adapted to the realities and challenges of the 21st century, taking into consideration the specificities of Monaco and their bilateral relationship;

- the evolution of the situation of French citizens that have been living in Monaco for several generations, "children of the country" who contribute to the history, society and economy of Monaco;

- the daily life of French employees who participate directly in its economic dynamism and in particular the question of their possible access to preferential housing in neighbouring communities.

In conclusion, Prince Albert II invited President Emmanuel Macron and his wife to come to the Principality of Monaco for an official visit.
