On the occasion of HSH Princess Charlene’s trip to South Africa, the South African branch of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation organized, on the 21st of April 2017, a cocktail function in aid of water safety and drowning prevention.
HSH Princess Charlene spoke on behalf of Her Foundation and engaged guests on the importance of its work: "Here in South Africa, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death after road accidents." She adds, "We can save so many lives, simply by teaching people essential water safety skills and how to swim and by focusing on one person, one family, one community at a time."
Her Serene Highness has also been active at several South African events during her stay. On Friday the 21st of April She visited Gugulesizwe Primary School and supervised, as a Patron of and in partnership with the South African Red Cross, a first aid and CPR training session for the teachers and the children. On Saturday 22nd, she attended the inaugural "Princess Charlene Ladies Day": a charity race day created to support three organisations – the Red Cross, Gugulisizwe Primary School and the Highveld Horse Care Unit.
