H.S.H. Princess Charlène attended the opening of the 10th Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative

During Her visit in New-York, H.S.H. Princess Charlène attended the opening of the 10th Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to formalize the engagement of Her Foundation to the goals and principles of the Clinton Global Initiative.

H.S.H. Princess Charlène was warmly welcomed by the Clinton Family last Sunday at the Clinton Global Citizen Awards Dinner. She has chosen to partner with the CGI that She considers a unique international platform capable of responding in an immediate and effective manner to today’s humanitarian challenges thanks to a global network of exceptional members and a philosophy of dynamic partnerships that has already resulted in more than 3100 Commitments to Action and has improved the lives of more than 430 millions in over 180 countries.

This week, more than 45 current and former Heads of State and Government and more that 1 000 of the most influential leaders from business, government, civil society and philanthropy have gathered to reimagine the strategies to achieve a more equitable society and for shared prosperity.

The Princess Charlène Foundation has indeed pledged to promote the issue of water safety to address the tragic loss of life of children around the world due to drowning.

It is estimated that drowning, the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, claims each year the life of 359 000 people and that one child drowns every three minutes.

Through the implementation of Her Foundation’s programs “Learn to swim” and “Water safety”, H.S.H. Princess Charlène is committed to bring Her own personal experience as an Olympian swimmer to make a transformative contribution with concrete actions aimed at teaching life-saving tools to children and adults on the ground.

H.S.H. Princess Charlène will also take the opportunity of Her stay in New York to attend the 7th Annual World Focus on Autism co-hosted by Suzanne and Bob WRIGHT of Autism Speaks, a partner of CGI and Ms. BAN Soon-Taek, the spouse of the United Nations Secretary-General.

Already deeply dedicated to combat autism, H.S.H. Princess Charlène displayed Her support for the association Autism Speaks, by participating in the “Light it up Blue” initiative in lighting up the Princely Palace in blue last April on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day. She intends to help raise awareness against this developmental disorder in order to advocate for early diagnosis and new techniques for improving the quality of life of affected children and families.
